Behind Bars
On January 11, 2002, months after September 11, 2001, Guantanamo Bay received its first prisoners. The men were captured and transported to Guantanamo Bay with a suspicion of being Taliban members. Little information is known about Guantanamo, but in recent years many Americans have advocated for the prison to be shut down. Even President Barak Obama advocated for this during his first term of presidency. Advocates state that these men are not receiving their basic human rights.
Stories leaked the possible horrors at this American prison camp making the American public uncomfortable. 779 men have been held captive at Guantanamo Bay and have not been criminally tired. Many people have speculated that inhumane treatment of these prisoners has occurred; waterboarding possibly being involved. To this day it is uncertain about what happens at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, but we do know that these prisoners are human and should be given their basic rights.
